100 Questions for a DeviantARTIST - stolen from :iconkainaa:

01.] What is your pen name?

Ali

02.] What made you choose this name?

WELL, I used have a character named Kiva, which I had based my last alias off. But Kiva's design was NOTHING like me. She was more of who I wanted to be... and I just couldn't associate. I needed a representation of ME.
Kiva's character design was also pretty bland, to be honest. Not to mention, unoriginal (white tigers with purple stripes seem to be pretty popular). As a human, her color scheme was mostly silver, black, and purple. But if I had to be serious, I HATE the color purple.
So. I created Kakon Akushin, my new lemur girl, in her place. And Kakon's nickname is Ali, so I took that as my new artist alias, as well (The name Ali was random, though - when naming Kakon, I just wanted to only call her Ali, and the name stuck). Ali is more like me, in the sense that she has rough mood swings, freckles, a fashion sense, and that she prefers the color turquoise, over all else.

03.] Do you use PC or Mac?

Had a Mac for 8 years. I now use my boyfriend's PC, though.
The monitor is a Dell, but the tower is a [piece of shit] Compaq.

04.] What programs do you use most often?

I was using Photoshop Elements for a while, but I recently switched to Paint Tool SAI.

It's a lot cleaner, and it lags / crashes less (if at all).

05.] Do you use mouse, or tablet?

Tablet.
A Wacom Bamboo tablet, specifically.

06.] What color or color combinations do you find yourself using most often?

I use a lot of brown, tan, cream, and black. Figures, both Domi AND Ali use that color scheme.

I think I've also abused blue and green before too, though.

07.] What part of a picture do you put most effort into?

The focus point of the image, itself.

08.] How long does it take you do draw a picture?

Usually only about 7-9 hours. But according to my Drawing 1 teacher, at college, I seem to just lose interest in things quickly. If not that, then I become satisfied too easily. So Im not like those artists that you hear about, taking months, or years, to complete things. I usually don't go back to tweak things, unless it's absolutely important to (like in commissions, or trades). I probably should, though...

09.] Do you keep your rough drafts?

It depends. If it's digital, I might.
I'll usually save the base sketch underneath the final image.

10.] What font do you use most often?

In my art, I like to choose fonts according to the vibe of that image.
I mostly use the same fonts for my watermarks, though (usually something easy to read).

11.] When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?

Uhh... normal? I guess. I think DPI means image quality, but Im not sure.

I don't scan stuff very often.

12.] Do you do anything else when you're drawing?

I sometimes back out of SAI, and chat on Facebook for a bit, and then return to arting.

It's good to have breaks in between.

13.] Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?

Probably at least 1-3 pictures everyday, excluding the days I spend with my boyfriend.

14.] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?

Standard sketchbook paper. Or computer paper

15.] What kind of paper do you use for rough sketches and drafts?

Usually only computer paper, since we have TONS of packs I can waste (our printers don't work).

If not that, then I have two very tiny Canson sketchbooks I can doodle in.

16.] How long does it take you to ink something?

Between 30 mins, to an hour, digitally. Im usually pretty quick about it, though.

On paper, it's even quicker. I have more fun, traditionally, I think.

17.] Do you do comics, or fan comics?

Not at all.
I wish I could, though.

18.] Do you like comics? Are they fun to make?

I like comics, but I don't have the patience to make them.

I've tried. Only succeeded two times. All other times, I gave up after the first page.

19.] Have you ever submitted anything to a magazine?

Nope.

20.] Did it get published?

Nope. ^

21.] Who are your favorite artists?

If you mean professional artists, I would have to say Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto) has my favorite style.

It's his style that really got me into Naruto, in the first place. It's not like generic anime art.
It's more human... more believable. The anatomy of the characters are VERY correct.
You can tell he's great with facial features, especially when he draws people up close, and at various angles.

I LOVE how he draws lips, for some reason.

And honestly, I wouldn't be able to draw feet, if it weren't for copying him.

22.] Do you like anime/manga? If so, what are your favorite series?

I like anime far more than American stuff, but even so, I watch far LESS of it.

I only really was ever into Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Sailor Moon, Hamtaro, Mew Mew Power, Naruto Shipuuden, and now, as of recently, Soul Eater.

23.] Do you like cartoons/comics? If so, what are your favorite series?

Not really. I do like Family Guy, and a lot of older cartoons, from my childhood.
I was pretty into shows like Scooby Doo, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Krypto the Superdog, Atomic Betty, Whatever Happened to Robot Jones, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Fairly Odd Parents, etc.

You get the point.

24.] Any artists that you wish you could draw like?

Mostly just :iconhibbary:, :icondaffodille:, and/or :iconfalvie:.

All three are pretty insane.

25.] Do you read a lot of books?

NOOOOOOOOOOPE.

26.] Did you ever buy a book to inspire or teach you to draw?

A few. I bought this really neat book for how to draw and color with Copics, by a fellow Deviant, actually.

The back of the book links me to :iconecthelian: - you should all go check her out! She's AMAZING!!

27.] Any video games you enjoy?

I've always loved Pokemon games, since I was little.
But I also really liked Kingdom Hearts 2 for a while, and the older Sonic games.

Currently, I just started playing Mario Galaxy, so we'll see how that goes.

28.] Any favorite characters from video games?

Sure.
Roxas and Xion, both from Kingdom Hearts
Talim, Tira, Taki, and Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur
Link, Zelda, Fi, and the entire Zora race, from The Legend of Zelda
Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, and Blaze, from Sonic the Hedgehog
FUCKIN YOSHI from Super Mario Bros.
And like, all 800 Pokemon ever invented, so far.

29.] Do you have a favorite writer?

Nope, I don't even read.

30.] Any books you really enjoy?

Again, no.

31.] Do you draw fanart?

Occasionally. But I have to REALLY be in the mood.

32.] Do you listen to music while you draw?

Yeah. I mean, I used to play iTunes on shuffle while I drew, when I still had my Mac.
But now, it's usually silent because my boyfriend's computer doesn't have sound.

33.] Any recommended songs?

"Too Close" by Alex Clare
"Crush" by Pendulum
Waiting for the End" by Linkin Park
"Hide" by RED

34.] Any other art websites that you really enjoy?

DA has a wide variety of all different types of art lovers.
FA has a VERY kind and welcoming community.

I used to use SheezyArt too, but the community there is terrible.
I swear, they're all just trolls that run that place. And not even the good kind.

35.] Are there any websites that you go to everyday?

Besides here? Just FurAffinity and Facebook. :B

36.] What is your dream website like?

haha Whatever ~ShinobuKohana decides to design for me. ;D

37.] Do you like your own art?

Sometimes. But mostly... no.

38.] What do you enjoy watching on television?

WELL, when I actually watch TV, it's usually whatever my parents are watching.

But on my own time, if Im bored enough, I'll watch Family Guy, or turn on Soul Eater.

39.] Favorite celebrity?

Hmm... I guess Emma Stone is pretty adorable and hilarious. I would hug her so hard.

40.] Favorite color?

Turquoise~

41.] Favorite food?

Pie is better than cakes. Muffins are better than cupcakes. And pudding is better than yogurt.

But I'll eat anything, really.
I also really like Japanese food, macaroni, seafood, and anything with sausage on/in it.

**PS. I know a majority of kids don't like veggies, but everyone should try Edamame -
they're soybeans that are boiled, and then covered in sea salt.

42.] Favorite drink?

Vanilla cream soda.
I only drink that sparingly though, since I dropped soda from my diet.

Other than that, I usually drink cran-grape juice, or milk.

43.] Do you like to go shopping? If yes, where? And for what?

Y'know, I was never really much of a girl. Shopping never really interested me.
I really only go shopping if it's for groceries, video games, or clothes. That's about it.

44.] Can you cook?

NOPE. Im a terrible woman, I know.

But I am learning. Slowly.
My boyfriend does all the cooking. I mostly just bake stuff.

45.] Any devices you use often for email?

Uhh... I don't even use my email all that often, so... no?

46.] Are you tech-savvy?

Somewhat. I can operate a Mac with ease.
Im new to using a PC, but Im slowly beginning to figure things out.

I just did something the other day, that not even my boyfriend knew how to do on a PC. hehe

47.] Do you want to become a professional artist?

Yes, though not just an artist. I want to be an animator.
Or, perhaps a concept artist for an animation team.

I've been told many times before, that I do great concept / reference work.

48.] Are there any other jobs you're interested in?

Anything art related. But until I reach that availability, I can just stick with retail.

49.] Any other hobbies or skills besides drawing?

I can sing. I also like to dance. But Im a little white girl, so I stick to singing, mostly.

50.] Do you like to watch movies?

Sorta. I just watched "A Cat in Paris" on Netflix last night, with my boyfriend.
It was a pretty good movie. Had an interesting art style. Fluid animation.

And one of the characters was voiced by Steve Blum (aka Orochimaru).

51.] What's your favorite movie?

It's between The Lion King, UP, and the Harry Potter series.
I don't get to go the theatre very often. Im poor.

52.] Have you ever entered an art contest, here at DeviantART or otherwise?

Yeah. And now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever really won once.

53.] When did you start drawing seriously?

When I was just a wee babu.

54.] Do you use references? If so, for what?

Yes, and uh. Only for EVERYTHING.
I always want to be AS accurate as I can be.

I mean, it's not always necessary, since art is not defined by logic.

But still... I hope to work for Disney one day. So I kinda have to be good with anatomy and all.

55.] Are you a subscriber? If so, are you a beta-tester?

Yes, and also yes.
I like getting all of DA's new updates before everyone else.
Just so that I can scream and warn people if I don't like them.

56.] Do you have a lot of net friends?

Sort of. I used to associate with A LOT of people online, when I was younger.
But, now, I only really talk with :iconkeyox: :iconmaquenda: :iconnyaasu: and :iconbirdybrains:

57.] Do you have a lot of friends that also draw?

Yeah. Here's a few of my irl artist friends:
:iconshinobukohana: :icon2ninjabee2: :iconjellyfishtomi: :iconmielni:

58.] What time of the day do you usually go online?

Around 2-3pm.
I go to class from 8am, till 12:30pm.
On breaks, I sleep in. FFF

59.] Do you like to go to chat rooms?

Not unless I was personally invited by someone I know.
All the past times I wandered into chat rooms, they ended up being HUGE mistakes.

Once, I even got cussed out, and forced to leave, because they thought I was a furry.

I don't know whether I was more offended by their behavior, or the derogatory insult of calling me a furry.

60.] Do you have your own computer?

Sort of. I HAD my own Mac desktop, but it crashed last December.

Im currently using my boyfriend's computer, until we can by me a new desktop.
Which should be soon. He promised to buy me a laptop at least, with his next paycheck. <3

61.] What would you say to the person that you admire?

"GIVE ME ALL YO SKILLAGES"

62.] Does your mind wander when you draw?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...yes.

I swear I have ADHD.

63.] Have you drawn poorly because you think too much?

LOL YES. whoops.

64.] Do you have any friends who are professional artists?

Yes, but she's not really MY friend, as much as she is just a friend of the family.

She's a professional photographer, who works for Disney, out in California!
She's pretty amazing, guys.

65.] Where do you often hang out?

Im either at home, or at my boyfriend's house.
In rare cases, Im with a friend. Or friends. Depends how many people love me that day. fff

66.] Are there any popular artists that you don't like much? (no need to name names if you don't want to)

Umm. FUCK YES.
I won't name anyone, but I know QUITE a few people that let the fame get to their heads.
Sometimes these people need a swift kick to the ass, as a reminder, that they're just as human as us.

I hate people that act like they're above others. Like, shut the fuck up. This ain't a heirarchy.

Get over yourselves. /end mini rant

67.] Are there any situations in which you really don't like being a DeviantARTIST?

When I see people younger than me, that are obvious art prodigies, and better than me.

Or when I see people drawing shit art, getting all this praise, while my hard work goes unnoticed.

68.] How about situations that make you love it?

When people show genuine care and love!
It happens. It seems to be a rare thing nowadays, but it does happen.

The other day, two people read about my foreclosure issue, and DONATED $350 to me.

It almost had me in tears. For real.

69.] What's the one thing that makes you grateful that the internet exists?

Exposure to humor.

...ehehe this is question 69. OOOOHRIGHT.

70.] Is there anything out there that makes you wish the internet didn't exist?

Idiots.
Cyberbullies (not trolls - there's a difference).
Goreaphilliacs (the people that post vulgar images online, of people with guts exposed, etc)

71.] What's your first Deviation?

I CAN'T REMEMBER.
I've been through like, 3 different accounts already. pffft

72.] Any art you did prior to that?

Yeah. But nothing I would need to share, though.
Because Im sure it would be terrible. I joined DA when I was 11.

73.] Has your style changed a lot since joining DeviantART?

Definitely. I've been here for about 5 years now. Why wouldn't it?

74.] If it has changed, it what ways?

I have developed a more unique style, even though it still isn't really "me".
Anatomy has improved by tenfold, thanks to constant careful reffing, and receiving redlines.

75.] Have you experienced artist's block before?

Yep. Uggh. And to be honest, I think I just got over a really bad one.

76.] If so, how do you usually get out of it?

Usually, I would redraw old pictures, to prove myself PROOF that I have evolved.
Lately, though, I've really just been taking commissions, and forcing myself to keep moving.

77.] What do you do when you can't get out it?

If I continue, I know I'll only frustrate myself, so I usually just give up, and go listen to music, or something.

78.] Any Deviants that have influenced you a lot?

Yes! Mostly these awesome guys:
:iconkeyox: :iconmaquenda: :iconhibbary: and :icondaffodille:

There were millions of other Deviants that drew humans, that were just random, that I also mimicked style pointers from, but I couldn't even begin to name them all. Just know that they were all insane artists, and had GODLY ways to coloring things (most were digital painters).

79.] What made you want to start drawing?

Because drawing is fun~
Artistic talent (for both drawing AND music) run in my family, on my dad's side.
I've been drawing since I can remember. Eventually my talent just became a hobby. :V

80.] What made you want to join DeviantART?

Art. :B

81.] Has anything ever made you want to quit DeviantART?

Uhh, yeah. But many will argue it's a petty reason to.
It's just because of a general lack of attention. Nothing more to say.

I just really like feedback. And when I don't get any, it makes me feel like I did something wrong.

Lately, I've been getting a whole lot of silence, and it's starting to irk me.

82.] What do you think about netiquette?

Netiquette... is that... what I think that is.
A mash up of internet, and etiquette???

OH MY GOD, THAT IS GOLD. AHAHA

but in all seriousness, though.
people should follow it more. make the world a better place.

sometimes Im too tired to deal with yo shyt.

83.] Have you ever been spammed or trolled?

Yeeeeeeeeup. Was a long time a go, though.
I can't honestly remember the last time it happened to me.

Ohwell. What's it even matter, now? Im a troll too. pfft

84.] Ever thought about quitting art all together?

Yeah. A few times.

85.] If so, why?

It pisses off my boyfriend, because he thinks Im wonderful, but... sadly, I don't always see that.

Sometimes, I get really frustrated trying to be something Im not capable of, yet.
There are SO MANY great styles that I want to mimic, but I obviously can't do everything all at once, so.

Yeah, it's pretty stressful. I just constantly look to improve, but I think I push myself WAY too hard.

86.] Do you upload high quality versions of your Deviations, or do you prefer to upload a lower quality?

...you can choose a difference??

87.] Do you have custom CSS? If so, did you make it yourself?

NOOOOPE.
I don't have a single clue how to code a CSS. 8D

88.] Do you have good vision?

Somewhat. I have AMAZING vision for things up close, to the point where I can point out things that most people might usually look past. But in far away distances, I can't really make out things a lot of the time, and I end up seeing things that aren't really there (esp. at nighttime). :/

89.] If you can get anyone's autograph, whose would you get?

I would probably try to get autographs from everyone in Linkin Park, Pendulum, RED, and also from Lady Gaga, just because I need an excuse to talk to her, and ask her some really bizarre questions.

90.] What would you say to that person when he or she gives you an autograph?

I would smile awkwardly, cry a little, hug them, and then run away, screaming, while flailing my arms happily.

91.] Do you like to draw on Oekaki BBS?

Uhh. I think I used an oekaki board like, once. And it was hard to understand. So. no.

92.] Do you have a job?

Not yet, but I am looking.

Also, I am currently taking commissions.
They don't count as a "job", but it does raise money, in case I may need it.

93.] Did you take art in school? If so, did you do well? Are you still taking it?

Yep! I aced every class. haha And I am currently in an art college, as well~

94.] Have you taken art lessons outside of a school setting?

Nooope. My dad wanted to put me in special art classes, but we couldn't afford it.

95.] Have you ever drawn something just because it was the cool thing to do -- the hip new fad?

Of course. I was a fan of Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Sonic, The Lion King, Balto, Naruto, and like, a million other things that probably became more popular than needed. Then, I guess I also did some Slenderman and MLP art, but they don't really count... I don't like MLP all that much, and although Slendy is p. cool, I don't consider troll/meme fads to be true fads. As far as Im concerned, memes will always be around. MLP may eventually begin to lose it's shine, though.

96.] What's your favorite phrase/quote?

"Imma save up some nickels, put em in a glass,
then Imma go downtown, and buy me some... apples."

-Roscoe Holland,
Stick out your Can, 1958 (it's a hilarious song, look it up)

97.] Do you present yourself differently online than you do in your real life?

Yep. Unfortunately. I mean, Im not TOTALLY different. But Im way more shy in person.

98.] What's your goal now?

I WANNA BE, THE VERY BEST,
LIKE NO ONE EVER WAAAAAAAS~~

but no, really. I want to be a decent artist. Like. Amazing, and blow your mind up, and shyt.

99.] What do you have to say to yourself?

I say a lot to myself. Ali has two sides, you know. IT'S A WAR UP IN HURR.

100.] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone who read this?

FINALLY, IM DONE.
I CAN BREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATHEEEEEE
